Eastern Elegance Sunburst Birthday Card

____________________________________________________________________

Hi Stamping Friends!

I know you've been stocking up on your Designer Series Papers this month with the awesome Buy 3, Get 1 FREE DSP promotion, right?!  I know I have!

Today's card is a perfect way to show-off the gorgeous prints and patterns of Stampin' Up! Designer Series Papers!  It's also a super way to use up your scraps!

Sunburst - two cool

It's call the Sunburst technique!  We tried this at our Wow Techniques Class last night and found it's so easy and fun to do!

I selected the Eastern Elegance pack of paper because there were so many small, elegant prints.  I was inspired by the "smile" card pictured on page 110 of the Annual Catalog, which also features these papers.

I started with a Bermuda Bay card base.  Even though the paper features Coastal Cabana, I wanted something with a little more contrast.  Bermuda Bay is like a deeper version of Coastal Cabana and I thought it worked together perfectly!

Making The Sunburst Design

I started with a 4" x 5-1/4" piece of Whisper White to use as a foundation for my design.

After cutting four different pieces of designer paper to 4" x 1-1/2", I cut each one diagonally from corner-to-corner.  (The Stampin' Trimmer works great for this, by the way!)  I ended up with 8 different patterned "pie-shapes" to create my sunburst.

Decide where you want your focal point element to be on your card.  You'll want to adhere your first piece perpendicular, or straight up, from that point.  Then, you'll lay in the rest of the points from there.  Depending on how much area you need to cover, you may need more shapes, or longer shapes.

TIP:
I highly recommend using the Silicone Craft Sheet for this project.  Adhesive
won't stick to it, so you can roll your SNAIL all the way to the skinny
tip of the point without adhesive getting all over your work surface.
And, as you're applying your shapes, the edges hanging off the top fo
the card won't stick to your surface.  It works so, SO well!

As you continue applying points, adjust them as necessary to cover the foundation all the way to the edges.  Don't worry about the ragged look of where the tips of the points come together and overlap.  These will be covered up eventually anyway.

Once the card foundation is filled, trim off the excess paper.

Finishing The Sunburst—I added a 4" x 2" piece of Crushed Curry card stock, embossed with the Beautifully Baroque Folder, across the bottom to cover the ragged edges.  The Crushed Curry Chevron Ribbon also helps to conceal any uneven areas.

Sunburst - v3

I die-cut the Bermuda Bay shape with the Chalk Talk Framelits.  The Best of Birthdays greeting image was stamped twice, once in Smoky Slate and once in Crushed Curry.  The gray image was punched with the Extra Large Oval Punch.  I cut out the "birthday" from the other image and popped it up with Dimensionals.

FYI – I tried using the Bitty Banners Framelits to cut out the "birthday" banner shape, but it didn't match up as well I would have liked, so hand-cutting was a better option.

I finished off the sentiment with Rhinestone Jewels and a Vintage Faceted Button tied with Pool Party Baker's Twine.

Sunburst - h

If you want your sunburst to go off to the side, like I did on my second card, the starting piece should still be perpendicular to the focal element.  My starting piece was the Coastal Cabana one with the straight, horizontal edge.
