Hi Stamping Friends!
Have you ever made your own tie-dyed T-shirt? I remember creating them at Girl Scout summer camp. It was so much fun folding, twisting and gathering up sections of the shirt, securing them with rubber bands and dipping them into colorful dies! After waiting and waiting for what seemed like forever, the best part was cutting off all the rubber bands and unfolding your crew-necked masterpiece! If you did it right, the blend of colors and unique patterns were spectacular!
Last week, I finally put some ink to my Tie-Dyed stamp set and it took me back to those T-shirt-making days at camp! It was still fun playing with color blends, but this time, my fingernails weren't dyed magenta for a week! Bonus! Much more my speed these days.
We'll be using this fun 3-step stamping technique to make some cute little tie-dyed T-shirt cards at my "Last Thursdays" card class this week. Hope you can join us for this "throwback Thursday" project!

Tie-Dyed Custom Tee Shirt Cards
Whether you've tie-dyed before or not, you'll love experimenting with lots of colors for these cute mini tees! I had to start with a traditional looking tie-dye, then I went for some cool blues for a more subdued vibe! Let's check out the details…
Background Basics—I started by embossing a 3-3/4" x 5" piece of Pool Party card stock with the Brick Wall Texture Impressions Folder. I layered that onto a 3-7/8" x 5-1/8" piece of Basic Black, then mounted it onto a Whisper White card base.
Banners—Next, I cut a 1" x 4-1/2" strip of So Saffron floral paper from the Subtles Designer Series Paper stack, fishtailed the ends with my super-sharp Paper Snips and adhered it to the brick pattern with SNAIL. I added another 1/2" x 4" strip of So Saffron card stock over the top for a double-banner accent. A single Rhinestone Jewel adds some sparkle.
Tie-Dyed Shirt Stamping—I wanted the colors to blend together for a realistic tie-dyed look, so I spritzed a thin layer of water onto some Watercolor Paper. Next, I stamped the three layering stamps from the Tie-Dyed stamp set onto the wet paper.xx
- Stamp the largest swirl pattern with Crushed Curry.
- Stamp the second largest pattern with Tempting Turquoise
- Stamp the smallest swirl pattern in Melon Mambo.
The three layers are designed to line-up and overlap to encourage the colors to blend. It's not always easy on the first try to see how they go together, but practice on some scrap paper to get the hang of it. Once I figured it out, I marked the top of each stamp so it would be easier to line up next time.
Finishing The Shirt—Once the paper was completely dry, I used the T-Shirt Builder Framelits to cut out the T-shirt shape. I also stamped a coordinating Custom Tee sentiment across the front. So much fun! I popped the shirt up with Dimensionals onto a Layering Ovals Whisper White die-cut. Then, I mounted that onto a Tempting Turquoise scallop oval die-cut from the same framelits. It's popped up, too.
Two Cool—For the second version, I did the background embossed layer in Marina Mist and the banners in Pool Party.
Cool Blue Tee—This time I stamped the shirt in Pool Party, Marina Mist and Dapper Denim, then layered it onto a Dapper Denim scallop oval. I stamped a "congrats" sentiment on the front.
