Now for something a little different! How about a fun little dresser that you can fill up with candy, jewelry, hair bows, gift cards, and even Barbie Clothes?! You could hide all kinds of things in this cute little chest!
The size may be a little deceiving in the picture…this mini dresser stands about 2-1/2" tall, is 4-1/2" wide, and 3-1/2" deep. I think you would be surprised at how easy it is to make. All you need is the Big Shot with Extended Cutting Pads, the Matchbox Bigz XL Die, the Top Note Die, and a lot of Sticky Strip.
The Matchbox die (shown to the right) will die cut and score your card stock into the matchbox and sleeve shapes, plus it cuts three tags that you can use to decorate your box. You just fold your box into place, no tape is needed. Then wrap the sleeve around the box and adhere the end (your box will slide in and out of the sleeve).
For the dresser, I created six matchboxes out of Baja Breeze card stock (coming back soon!) and the retired Parisian Breeze Specialty Paper. Then, I stacked them together, adhered with Sticky Strip around each of the edges.
I used the Top Note Die with the same card stock and paper to create the top and base of the dresser. Adhere these with Sticky Strip, too.
I finished off the dresser drawers with an accent cut with the Small Oval Punch, and Rhinestone Brads for the drawer pulls.
Other Too Cool Matchbox Chest Ideas
Here's another idea I found created by Demonstrator Gretchen Barron. She used the Tea Party DSP, the Great Friend stamp set, and cute Flower Designer Brads. You can see that she used one of the tags that was die-cut from the Matchbox Die to layer her sentiment. (I just love how Stampin' Up! items work so well together!) She has all the details on creating her Matchbox Treasure Chest on her Inspiration In Action blog.
And, look at this awesome project! Shelly Bobrowski created this beautiful project by stacking the matchboxes in different directions. Just think of all the little doodads you could keep in there! Love it! Be sure to check out all the details about her Matchbox Prayer Box.
OK—this is simply darling! Demonstrator Michelle Tech created this fabulous design, for which she was a 2009 Stampin' Up! Artisan Award finalist. I love the detail. She used Pattern Prints Designer Series Paper in Chocolate Chip and stamped the flourish from the Friends 24-7 stamp set. The front layer of the Top Note "mirror" is made from Brushed Silver card stock, as is the Scallop Oval punched tray. The Clear Rhinestone Brads are layered on Antique Brass Jumbo Eyelets. Too Cool! You can find all the instructions at her 2stampis2b blog.
As you can see, the Matchbox Die isn't just for matchboxes! It's quite versatile, actually. I've even seen it used to create a Tool Chest for Father's Day and an Advent Chest for Christmas, too! So many wonderful ideas with one single die! I can't wait to try more of these!
