Two Cool Swirly Bird Cards From My Team

Hi Stamping Friends!

The Too Cool Team had its monthly event on Monday and we had an awesome turnout! There were 18 of our local team members there and we had lots of fun creating make & takes, sharing project ideas and looking at the new products available with the new catalog pre-order! It was so much fun and I hope you can join us next month!

One of my favorite parts of our team event is our team swap. I love getting new ideas for using my stamps, tools & accessories! Today, I'm sharing a couple of swap cards that I received. Our theme was "What's Staying?" featuring Stampin' Up! products that were either new or carrying over into the upcoming catalog.

1) Darla's Swirly Bird Vellum Overlay Birthday Card

I haven't used vellum as an overlay in awhile, so I'm loving this idea from Darla Eigenschink! She featured a pretty stamped background created with the Swirly Bird stamp set and a large birthday greeting from Big On Birthdays!

Swirly Stamping—Darla's card begins by stamping a 4" x 5-1/4" layer of Whisper White with some pretty circle designs from Swirly Bird. She stamped the large, solid swirl in Crumb Cake, the smaller swirl in Dapper Denim and the splatter image in Marina Mist. She stamped all of the images heavily on the right side to balance out the ribbon element she would be adding later.

Cool Copper—Darla stamped the large Big On Birthdays sentiment in clear VersaMark ink onto a 4" x 5-1/4" piece of Vellum Card Stock, then heat embossed it with Copper Embossing Powder. TIP: Rub an Embossing Buddy pad over the top of the vellum to reduce static and eliminate any finger oils, so you don't have residual embossing powder lingering around where it's not supposed to be.

Finishing Touches—Darla attached the vellum to the stamped layer with a piece of Dapper Denim Ruched Ribbon, wrapped around the border and adhered to the back. She also wrapped some Copper Thread over the top of the ribbon several times for another shiny accent. The whole piece was mounted onto a Dapper Denim card base.

2) Carmen's Swirly Bird All Things Thanks Card

Carmen DeBruce also featured the versatile Swirly Bird stamp set on her swap card. She turned her swirls into pretty little roses for this sweet thank you card!

Sweet Sentiment—Carmen started by stamping an All Things Thanks sentiment in the top center of a 3-1/2" x 4-3/4" Whisper White layer in Marina Mist ink.

Swirly Stamping—The large & medium, solid Swirly Bird swirls were stamped near the bottom in Blushing Bride. She stamped over the top of each one with the smaller swirl in Flirty Flamingo. The leaves were then added in Wild Wasabi ink. Finally, she added some smaller flowers in both Blushing Bride and Flirty Flamingo randomly around the sentiment.

Finishing It Up—Carmen layered the stamped piece onto a 3-3/4" x 5" piece of Marina Mist card stock, then popped up the entire layer with Dimensionals onto a Whisper White, vertically-folded card base. She finished by adding a few Rhinestone Jewels!
