Two Cool Techniques With Dragonfly Dreams

Hi Stamping Friends!

I'm so very happy that the Dragonfly Dreams stamps & thinlits are being carried over into the new Annual Catalog coming out in June!  I still have so many card ideas that I want to try with that bundle!  Don't forget that even though the stamps & thinlits will still be available, the actual Dragonfly Dreams "Bundle" is retiring, so order that before May 31 if you want to get the 10% bundle discount!

Today, I'm sharing two Dragonfly Dreams cards created by Peggy Tassler featuring Too Cool techniques!

Dragonfly piecing - peggy tassler

Paper-Pieced Dragonfly Dreams Birthday Card

I love the stain-glass look of the dragonflies on this amazing paper-pieced card!  The colorful wings take a little extra time to assemble, but the results are simply stunning!  Peggy Tassler did a fantastic job with the in-laid paper pieces on this card!  Sensational!

Background Basics—Peggy started by stamping the dotted Dragonfly Dreams image in Soft Sky ink over the 3-3/4" x 5" Whisper White background.  It's layered onto a 4" x 5-1/4" Bermuda Bay mat and adhered to an Elegant Eggplant card base.

Pieced Dragonfly—Peggy used the Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits to create the dragonfly die-cut and in-laid pieces.  She cut the medium dragonfly from Basic Black, Bermuda Bay, Elegant Eggplant & Soft Sky card stock and saved all of the pieces.  TIP: Be sure to use the Precision Base Plate for clean cuts and the Die Brush to help release those tiny pieces.

Next, I would die-cut a Basic Black solid dragonfly shape for a foundation, sponging the entire piece with Multipurpose Glue, then start placing the colorful pieces in the frame just like a jigsaw puzzle.  Repeat the process for the smaller dragonfly, too.

Another way I've seen to achieve this look a little more quickly is to use Press 'N' Seal to keep the pieces together for easier placement.  You can see what I mean by watching Lisa Tedder's video.  It looks like something fun to try!

Finishing Touches—Peggy added a Birthday Banners sentiment on a strip of Whisper White along the top.  And, she finished by adhering some Metallic Sequins over the card front with Multipurpose Glue!  I think she may have used some Wink of Stella clear on the dragonflies for some shimmer and shine!

Dragonfly mask - peggy tassler

Masked Dragonfly Dreams Birthday Card

Peggy also tried a simple masked & sponged technique with the Dragonfly Dreams bundle!

Background Basics—This card begins by embossing the 4" x 5-1/4" Pear Pizzazz layer with the Petal Burst Texture Impressions Folder, then adhering it to a Basic Black card base.

Sponged LayerPeggy die-cut the cluster of small dragonflies using the Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits, then used the die-cut as a simple mask.  Holding the die-cut in place over a 2-5/8" x 4" piece of Whisper White, she used a sponge to carefully rub on Pear Pizzazz ink over the top.  The result is a pretty layer of white dragonfly outlines!  She added a Dapper Denim sentiment from the B.Y.O.P. stamp set at the top and wrapped some Affectionately Yours Washi Tape along the bottom.  It's layered onto a 2-3/4" x 4-1/8" piece of Basic Black, then popped up with Dimensionals diagonally onto the card front.

Dragonfly Details—Peggy stamped the Dragonfly Dreams dragonfly in Memento Black ink, then colored in the wings with Pear Pizzazz and Dapper Denim markers.  It's die-cut with the Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits, then attached with a Glue Dot onto the card.  She also cut an intricate dragonfly from Vellum Cardstock as an overlay, also adhered with a Glue Dot.  She added Rhinestone Jewels to complete the look.  So pretty!
