Super Cool Sweet Ice Cream Card
It’s bittersweet to share today’s cute cards, both created by a sweet friend that passed away last November. Deb Snyder was a fellow demonstrator from Goshen, Indiana, and one of my long-time card swap buddies. Though I didn’t know her well, I always looked forward to her creative, clever card designs every time we did a new catalog card swap. She was well-known for unique little twists to classic layouts and techniques. And, she was always a delight to talk to when we saw each other at stamping events. She also generously helped her fellow demos and their customers by re-creating the “Last Chance” lists so that they were in larger, more readable type than the list provided by Stampin’ Up! Her kindness was far-reaching and will be missed in our stamping demonstrator community.
Background Basics
Deb’s first card begins with a 4-1/4″ x 11″ horizontally folded Thick Basic White card base. She adhered three colored panels onto the front, each measuring 1-1/2″ x 4-1/4″, in Coastal Cabana, Basic Black and Flirty Flamingo.
Focal Point
Next, Deb cut three 1-1/8″ x 3-3/4″ strips of Basic White cardstock, stacked them and cut the ends on the diagonal about 3/8″ from each end. This created three trapezoid panels; one side measuring 3-3/4″ and the other measuring 3″. She stamped the ice cream image from the retiring Super Cool stamp set onto each panel in the same colors as the background panels: Flirty Flamingo, Coastal Cabana and Memento Tuxedo Black. They were adhered to the background panels, so that each had a different color. It’s kind of Warhol-like…one of those clever little twists that Deb loved!
Sweet Sentiment
Deb stamped the Super Cool sentiment in VersaMark Ink onto a Basic White Nest Essentials die-cut label, then sprinkled it with Black Embossing Powder and heat set with a Heat Tool until glossy and smooth. She popped the layer up with Dimensionals across the stamped artwork.
Finishing Touches
Deb finished by adding a retiring Black & White Gingham Ribbon bow to the end of the sentiment with a Glue Dot and finishing with a Basic Rhinestone Jewel on the top of each ice cream cone cherry!
What a fun and retro-looking card!
Super Cool Hey There Refreshment Card
Deb created a second swap card featuring more of the images from the Super Cool stamp set. This one is another retro-style card that’s perfect for sending to a sweet friend!
Basic Background
Deb began this card with a 5-1/4″ x 4″ piece of Lost Lagoon cardstock, embossed with the Exposed Brick Embossing Folder and mounted onto a Lost Lagoon card base.
Next, she die-cut a Very Vanilla Nested Essentials label and stamped a Super Cool sentiment on it with Lost Lagoon ink. She added a Poppy Parade Nested Essentials die-cut shape across the bottom of that sentiment label as a foundation for the focal point images.
Focal Point
Deb stamped a Super Cool cola bottle image in Pecan Pie ink onto Very Vanilla, then colored it in with Pecan Pie and Poppy Parade Stampin’ Blends Markers. She also stamped a Super Cool pretzel image in Copper Clay ink onto Very Vanilla cardstock. There are no dies for this stamp set, so she did some fussy-cutting around the bottle and pretzel, even cutting out inside the pretzel loops!
She adhere a folded piece of retiring Lost Lagoon Bordered Ribbon over the Poppy Parade die-cut, then popped up the bottle and pretzel over the top with Mini Dimensionals.
Finishing Touches
She finished with a couple of Rhinestone Jewels at the side. Super cool cards from a super-sweet gal. Miss you, friend!
