Watercolor Winter Frosted Pines & Holly

Now that Halloween is over, I finally feel like I can dig in and spend more time with my Christmas stamp sets!  I've really had my eye on the new Watercolor Winter set from the Holiday Catalog!

Winter holly & pines - two cool

I've had this holiday card design in my head for quite a while, so it's great to actually create it!  It's got a great, wintery feel to it with all the pearlescent shimmer and glittery sparkle.

The Cherry Cobbler card base is layered with Whisper White card stock that's been texture embossed with the Lacy Brocade Impressions Folder.

The focal point is stamped on an Apothecary Accents Framelits die-cut from Whisper White card stock.  I colored the pine boughs with Garden Green and Early Espresso Markers before stamping, and stamped the pine cones in Early Espresso ink.  The More Merry Messages greeting is stamped in Cherry Cobbler ink.

Check out that shimmer!  I applied Frost White Shimmer Paint with a Sponge Dauber lightly over the entire background so it looked like glistening snow.  I also sponged some of the paint onto the edges of the Apothecary label before adhering it to the front with Dimensionals.

When you look closely, you can see that the pines and pine cones are frosted up with Dazzling Diamonds glitter (adhered with a 2-Way Glue Pen).  Take it from me—Dazzling Diamonds are a MUST for wintery holiday cards!

The second of the two cool cards has a Petals-A-Plenty embossed background, also sponged with Frost White Shimmer Paint.

This card features the two-step stamping part of the the Watercolor Winter set.  I colored the outline image in Garden Green, Cherry Cobbler and Early Espresso Markers, then stamped around the edge of the Apothercary Accents die-cut.  I colored the bold image with markers the same way, but I stamped off on scrap paper once before stamping inside the outline image.  You can use a Stamp-A-Ma-Jig for accurate two-step stamping placement, but I just eyeballed it (it doesn't have to be perfect).

I added more Frost White Shimmer Paint and Dazzling Diamonds to this card, as well!

TIP: Be careful when you sponge on the Frost White Shimmer Paint, because it can easily smear the water-based ink.
