I saved my favorite card from this class for last! What I love about it is how EASY it is to create a watercolor look, without the mess, and without knowing a ding-dang thing about watercoloring! Let's take a closer look!
Background Basics—I started with a 4" x 5-1/4" piece of Soft Suede that I embossed with the Woodland embossing folder for a pretty birch tree background. It's adhered to a Soft Suede card base.
Easy Watercoloring Leaf #1—I stamped the large oak leaf in Old Olive ink onto a scrap of Very Vanilla. For the watercoloring, I simply used a Blender Pen to add Delightful Dijon ink over the top of the entire leaf. The Blender Pen pulls some of the Old Olive color from the stamped image and blends it with the Delightful Dijon color for a lovely multicolored effect!
TIP: You could also use an Aqua Painter for this technique, it will just take a little longer to dry.
Easy Watercoloring Leaf #2—I stamped the smaller leaf in Early Espresso ink onto Very Vanilla, then added Cajun Craze ink with a Blender Pen.
Curling The Leaves—After die-cutting my leaves with the coordinating Leaflets Framelits, I made my leaves a little more realistic by curling up the edges with a Bone Folder. They have enough dimension with curling that I didn't feel the need to pop them up; I just used SNAIL to adhere them to the sentiment layer.
Bundle It & SAVE! Purchase the Vintage Leaves stamps and the Leaflets Framelits together in a Bundle and save 15% off the cost of purchasing them separately!
Sweet Sentiment—I stamped the greeting from the Watercolor Wishes Card Kit in Soft Suede onto a piece of 2-1/2" x 3-1/2" Very Vanilla.
Golden Accents—My entire Vintage Leaves class features lots of golden accents on the cards. On this pair of cards, I matted the sentiment layer onto a piece of 2-3/4" x 3-3/4" Gold Foil, then I wrapped the layer several times with the Gold Metallic Thread. It's popped up on the card front with Dimensionals.
More Golden Accents—I finished off the leaf focal point with a Gold Metal Button and a Gold Baker's Twine bow. TIP: You don't have to thread the twine through the button, just simply use a Glue Dot to hold the bow in place!
Inside Décor—These Vintage Leaves create a pretty border on the inside of your card, too! And, don't forget to stamp the envelope! I stamped in Old Olive and Cajun Craze here.
Two Cool—On my horizontal version, I positioned the birch trees from the Woodland embossing folder to go in the "landscape" direction. It's easy to do with the new larger 6" x 6" size folders!
TIP: Watch the edges of this larger embossing folders to make sure it is flush with the cutting pads before sending it through the Big Shot, otherwise you could damage the fold of the folder.
Watercolored Leaves—On this card, I stamped the maple leaf in Cajun Craze, then colored over the whole leaf with the Blender Pen first, without adding any additional color, to get an overall rust-colored tone. Then I added just a bit of Hello Honey on the edges. The smaller leaf was stamped in Soft Suede and colored over the entire leaf with Old Olive ink using the Blender Pen.
Sweet Sentiment—This card's sentiment is also from the Watercolor Wishes Card Kit. Seriously…have you purchased this Watercolor Wishes Kit? Not only are the cards so, so pretty, but the phrases are simply fabulous!
